How philosophy can guide us through crises like climate change, AI, and nuclear war.
Will humanity face extinction due to advanced artificial intelligence? Could the climate crisis lead us to a mass extinction? Amid growing anxieties over worst-case scenarios like AI, climate change, pandemics, and nuclear war, how can we respond to these crises? Renowned philosopher Graham Harman argues that our fixation on 'catastrophic thinking'—imagining extreme disasters—may cause us to overlook the real challenges we currently face.
So, what practical issues should we focus on in the 21st century? Through five insightful lectures, Professor Harman analyzes pressing issues such as catastrophic thinking, AI, politics, and war, offering an opportunity to reflect on how our lives are changing and how we might understand and respond to these shifts philosophically.
