Doniger discusses the polytheistic nature of Hinduism and simplifies the complex concept of dharma using stories from Indian epics like the Ramayana and Mahabharata. In the concluding lectures, she offers insights into how India might move away from the misuse of mythology for political purposes.

Wendy Doniger is an American religious studies scholar and Indology expert who has been giving lectures about Hinduism and Indology for 50 years. She is especially renowned for her research of India’s religion and culture through Hindu folk tales and mythology, an area previously overlooked by academia.
Professor Doniger has been translating Hindu texts from the 1970s, including Hindu Myths: A Sourcebook, The Rig Veda, The Laws of Manu, and Vātsyāyana Kāmasūtra. She also writes books which interpret Hinduism from her own perspective, such as The Hindus: An Alternative History and On Hinduism.
