How big business and America are inseparable.
We are living in the era of capitalism. Big business has brought about and hastened its development, leading the global economy and most industries. However, the public view of big business has been shifting more to the negative over time. There is no shortage of scandals involving CEOs and major shareholders, whether these scandals be legal or moral in nature.
While all this negativity pervades the news cycles, Tyler Cowen sets out to defend capitalism and large corporations. Going against current sentiment, he draws upon his years of knowledge and research to explain why CEOs are paid as much as they are, what the role of big business is in our society, and whether or not work should be considered “fun.” What is it that compels him to stand in defense of capitalism against the myriad voices opposed to his ideas? Through Tyler Cowen’s lecture, we’ll have an opportunity to look at the purpose and social roles of capitalism and corporations in the modern age.
