From the perspective of labor economics, we’ll find the basis and exit of inequality.
Inequality has long become a topic of economic discourse in the 21st century. While the income gap between the top 1% and the bottom 50% is widening, measures such as tax policy conversion or introducing progressive tax are being discussed to reduce poverty and inequality. However, Harvard economics professor Lawrence Katz warns that the government shouldn’t only focus on the top 1%. He points out that there is a limit to wealth redistribution alone. He also argues that in order to reduce economic polarization, the government should find in the history of inequality the root cause that broke down the ladder of class mobility and come up with a solution.
Professor Lawrence Katz, a distinguished scholar of labor economics wishes to closely analyze the evolutionary process of inequality through the framework of education and technology. If you take a look at how evolving technology affects the labor market, you will naturally face the changes in education, which will, then, show you show polarization is worsened. If you follow the changes in education and technology that have led to turning points in inequality for decades, you will realize what it is that our society needs right now.
