How Can a Resilient Society Be Built?
Wars, inflation shocks, job insecurity, and stock market crashes—complex crises are lurking in every corner of our time. The news continuously warns of an economic cold wave, and despite efforts to prepare for these shocks, escape often seems impossible. So, what should we do? Markus Brunnermeier, Professor of Economics at Princeton University, argues that we must focus on managing resilience.
Brunnermeier, the founder of the online seminar series Markus Academy, has collaborated with leading global economic scholars to discuss the far-reaching impacts of today’s multifaceted crises and explore potential solutions. Drawing on years of wisdom and insights gained from these discussions, he now sheds light on the power of resilience.
From the looming threats of climate change and the transition to artificial intelligence to inflation shocks and disruptions in international trade and finance, Brunnermeier explores how resilience can help us navigate these challenges. What tools can nations and societies employ to overcome crises? How can we foster resilience to stand strong against shocks before they occur? Acting only after a crisis strikes is too late—resilience must be cultivated in advance. Together with Markus Brunnermeier, we examine the strategies to build resilience for a more secure and adaptable future.
