Evolutionary Theory You Didn’t Know About

Author of “The Selfish Gene”

Complexity and diversity of life, rules of the creation of life sans a designer

Why do so many animals exist on Earth? Why do organisms have such complex structures? How do cells develop into humans?

Those are questions about the creation of life and evolutionary history that have surely been on everyone’s mind at least once! Richard Dawkins, the world-renowned evolutionary biologist and the author of “The Selfish Gene,” will present conclusive answers to them on “Great Minds.” The ultimate answer he has for them is simple. These questions arise only because “you don’t know evolutionary theory that well!”

Richard Dawkins goes beyond the common knowledge associated with evolutionary theory that “organisms have evolved from the past,” and he dives deeper and wider into the concept of “evolution by natural selection” with explanations for the complexity of life, the significance of imperfect evolution, the importance of small mutation, and life’s creation through cell division.

Through “The Selfish Gene,” he had set a new paradigm for evolutionary theory by downsizing the basic unit of evolution from organism to gene, and he integrated “gene selection” with evolutionary concepts.

Even after a life period spent in the popularization of science, Richard Dawkins states that the task of persuading people of Darwin’s evolutionary theory is still incomplete! He is the one and only individual who can provide answers to every single detail of evolutionary theory, from A to Z.

Richard Dawkins is an English Evolutionary Biologist. He was born in a family of botanists and grew up in Africa. The philosophical questions he harbored toward the origin of life lead him down the path of becoming an evolutionary biologist. In his mid-30s, he published “The Selfish Gene,” which set a new paradigm for evolutionary theory with its argument that “individual organisms are merely tools to carry genes,” and narrowed down the basic unit of evolution from organism to gene. Subsequently, he authored various books on subjects spanning science, philosophy, and religion, all based on evolutionary theory, with the aim of popularizing the field of science.

In 2013, he was ranked No.1 on Prospect Magazine’s “World Thinkers 2013” list, won the “Nierenberg Prize for Science in the Public Interest” in 2009, and is currently serving as Emeritus Professor at Oxford University.
