Analyzing Death with Forensic Pathology

A Leading Forensic Scientist from Germany Shaping the Global Forensic Field

Explaining the significance and necessity of forensic science through cases encountered over 30 year

Forensic science is a vital discipline that upholds social justice by determining causes of death, identifying individuals, and investigating the possibility of crimes. Michael Tsokos, a forensic scientist with over 30 years of experience in Germany—often referred to as the "mecca of forensic science"—introduces the multifaceted world of forensic medicine, encompassing forensic pathology, toxicology, and genetics.

In his lecture, Tsokos delves into the rigorous autopsy procedures in Germany and the historical development of forensic science. He traces its evolution from traditional autopsy methods to modern advancements such as CT imaging. The role of forensic science extends beyond solving criminal cases. It has played a crucial part in international incidents, such as verifying evidence of war crimes in Srebrenica and identifying victims of the Indian Ocean tsunami, contributing significantly to social justice and uncovering the truth.

In Forensic Science: Reading Death, Tsokos will vividly recount his involvement in high-profile cases, including the international disaster sites he worked on and infamous crimes that shocked Germany, such as the 2015 Silvio S. serial murder case and the grisly discovery of a beheaded woman in a trunk. Through these real-life examples, he illustrates how forensic science not only aids criminal investigations but also reinforces the realization of justice in society.
