How to accept and love your body for what it is.

Roxane Gay, who has battled self-loathing and trauma for over 20 years, offers comfort to those struggling with their own pain. As a twelve-year-old girl who loved reading, Roxane Gay suffered a horrifying assault from neighborhood boys. Paralyzed with fear and unable to confide her ordeal to anyone, she turned the blame on herself and grew up amidst pain. Her coping mechanism was to make herself bigger - by ceaselessly indulging in food, she drove her body into severe obesity. This led to intense self-hatred. One day, while chronicling her story, she found the chance to introspect and soothe the pain she had long ignored. Liberated through her confession, she learned to accept and love her body as it was. Drawing on her experiences, she teaches viewers in this lecture how to bid farewell to trauma and escape the clutches of self-loathing.

Roxane Gay, who has publicly challenged weight discrimination, also draws attention to discrimination and oppression based on gender and race, asserting that opposing all forms of discrimination is the duty of the feminist movement. However, she identifies herself as a "bad feminist." What does true feminism mean to Roxane Gay, who enjoys the color pink, shaves her body hair, and occasionally listens to music containing misogynistic content?

English literature professor and author Roxane Gay went through a horrific experience as a child. Unable to talk about what happened to anyone, she grew up traumatized by the event. This severe self-loathing led her to incessant binge eating into adulthood, pushing her into extreme obesity. However, one day, as she began to write about her suffering, she found the opportunity to confront herself and gradually accept her identity.

Roxane Gay's candid memoir of her trauma resonated with readers around the world. Through her writing, she comforts those with deep wounds like hers and advises on how to overcome trauma. Contributing to The New York Times, The Guardian, Los Angeles Times, Time, Wall Street Journal, Elle, Salon, Rumpus, and more, Roxane Gay discusses breaking free from the world's sharp scrutiny of overweight bodies and how to acknowledge and love one's body. Critics describe her as "the person you want to call first for advice when you're in trouble."
