Heroes of Shu Han

A Chinese historian dedicated to the study of the Three Kingdoms

Shu Han hero tales from the Three Kingdoms, told by a Chinese history expert.

Records of the Three Kingdoms is East Asia's best-selling classic. According to one survey, one in two Korean adults owns a copy of the Three Kingdoms, highlighting its timeless role as a guide to life. Records of the Three Kingdoms is a 65-volume historical record written by Chen Shou, an official responsible for record-keeping in the Jin Dynasty.

In previous lecture, Chinese historian Fang Beichen delivered a lecture exploring the differences between Records of the Three Kingdoms and Romance of the Three Kingdoms, as well as the historical significance, characteristics, and background of its writing. Fang's specialized lecture, which focused on Records of the Three Kingdoms—a topic rarely covered in other lecture programs—was well-received by viewers. Building on this success, this lecture will focus specifically on the Shu Han kingdom, one of the three states of Wei, Shu, and Wu, examining how it was founded and the heroes behind its creation.

Fang Beichen, a prominent scholar of Shu Han who has lived and researched extensively in Chengdu, Sichuan Province—the stronghold of Shu Han—is considered a leading expert on the kingdom in China. This lecture series will provide viewers with a deeper understanding of the lives and achievements of key figures such as Liu Bei, Guan Yu, Zhang Fei, Zhuge Liang, and Zhao Yun.
