Cameron revolutionized movie CGI in 1989 with Abyss. He also played a major role in the transition from film to digital, one of the milestones in film history, by introducing digital 3D technology in his game-changing 2009 movie, Avatar.

James Cameron, the best director in Hollywood when it comes to bringing technology and storytelling together, was a fan of the sciences and sci-fi novels as a boy, with a great interest in space and the ocean. His dreams of becoming a movie director started after watching Space Odyssey in 1968, leading him to teach himself film theory in a library. In his 1989 movie Abyss, he created the first living and moving CGI water creature, bringing about a rapid development in movie CGI technology. In 2009, he made Avatar, a movie with a CGI character as the lead, which is still at the highest grossing movie of all time. Cameron, who filmed Avatar in digital 3D at the time, played a crucial role in the film industry’s transition from film to digital.
His achievements have been recognized over the years, and he won the Academy Award for Best Director and Best Picture for Titanic in 1998 and the Golden Globe Award for Best Director and Best Picture for Avatar in 2010.
