The story of the inventor who took the world by storm with a vacuum cleaner
The great invention began by accident. James Dyson, a family man in his 40s, was cleaning his house when he realized something was wrong with his vacuum cleaner. The dust bag was smelling bad, and the vacuum wasn't sucking up the dust properly, even though it wasn't broken. Wondering why, he happened to go to a timber yard near his home and noticed a sawdust-sucking cyclone. Inspired by how it used the motor’s centrifugal force to create a whirlwind that sucked up even very fine dust, Dyson set out to invent a new vacuum cleaner. Four years later, he launched his invention. This is how Dyson, the bagless vacuum cleaner company that conquered the global market, was born.
James Dyson says that if there is an everyday item that irritates you, finding a way to improve it can start a new invention. However, he emphasizes the importance of persevering through the many failures you will experience before you finally succeed. Dyson tells the story of the trial and error he faced as he invented the bagless vacuum cleaner, and how prejudice nearly stopped its launch. Although he studied industrial design, James Dyson stresses the importance of engineering. Even if a product is beautifully designed, if it doesn't perform well, people will ignore it. However, if it performs well, people will keep using it even if it doesn't look great.
Famed as an innovative entrepreneur for his performance-oriented appliances, including vacuum cleaners, Dyson is passionate about developing technology for the future. We take a look at James Dyson's invention notes to see what he's doing to elevate technology.

Everyone’s heard of the household appliance brand Dyson. However, not many people realize that the brand is named after a person, who is also the founder and inventor of the vacuum cleaner without a dust bag: James Dyson, a British inventor and industrial designer.
Dyson studied industrial design at the Royal College of Art in the United Kingdom and was introduced to the world of invention by an inventor he met at university. Dyson went on to design several inventions and prove himself as an inventor. One day, while cleaning his home, he noticed that his vacuum cleaner was not sucking in dust very well and wondered why it wasn't performing better. Four years later, he invented a vacuum cleaner without a dust bag and introduced it to the world. Within three years, it became the world's best-selling vacuum cleaner and made its inventor famous, leading to the launch of more uniquely designed household products that utilized small motors.
As of May, last year, Dyson Limited was valued at 9.7 billion dollars. James Dyson, known as "21st Century Edison," is recognized as the world's greatest living innovator in the field of household appliances.
