The truth of the world, explained through the data
Is the world getting worse? Steven Pinker takes on the challenge of fixing our misconceptions about the world. He is a 21st century’s enlightenment thinker and reads the world through data and objective facts.
We assume the world is getting worse as we’re bombarded with news of the worst accidents and scandals every day. However, contrary to what we’re presented in the news, Pinker tells us that the world is actually getting better. Steven Pinker advises us to get away from our psychological biases and listen to the objective data that’s out there.
In Lecture One, “Is the World Getting Worse?,” we look into the reality of the world with data that relates to longevity, wealth, peace, freedom, human rights, and even the COVID-19 pandemic. In Lecture Two, “Bad News that Seduces Us,” we talk about the psychological reasons we are drawn to the negative news and how to not be overly consumed by it.
In Lecture Three, “The Reason We are Drawn to the Violence,” we study how humans can live together peacefully by understanding our basic violent instincts and how to effectively control them.
