The value of nature.
In the Ian Redmond's lectures, he draws attention to the precarious state of Africa's mountain gorillas, illustrating their plight through the impactful story of a gorilla he witnessed dying. This sets the stage for discussing broader wildlife conservation challenges and the urgent need for protective measures against extinction.
In the latter half, Redmond shifts focus to African elephants, celebrating the successful conservation efforts that have shielded them from the worst of poaching. He applauds the collective global initiatives during the 1980s that curbed ivory poaching. Concluding his series, he proposes applying the lessons learned from elephant conservation to broader ecological challenges, advocating for a global strategy to rebalance the Earth's ecosystems.
As a field scientist, Ian Redmond has dedicated his whole life to researching and protecting wildlife. He emphasizes that appealing to human sympathy isn’t enough to protect wild animals and the ecosystem. We meet Ian Redmond as we learn ways to preserve the natural world around us in realistic and sensible ways.
